Steel frame design

This high end development of 10 apartments with a top floor penthouse is set over four floors with basement car parking in the prestigious Sandbanks.

This came with significant engineering challenges, from its deep excavations for the basement car parking, requiring contiguous bored piles to the boundaries with the adjacent property, deep lift shaft and central positioning of the tower crane.

Initially the block was designed as a reinforced concrete framed structure however, this was changed following detailed design and pricing by the developer to a steel frame with hollow core floors.

Although a potentially lower cost solution, the challenge has been to adapt hollow core floors to accommodate the curved and angular sections of the building.
